THE PRESTIGIOUS FRENCH MAGAZINE DIAPASON GIVES A FIVE-DIAPASON RATING TO THE ETUDES AND THE BALLADES
Not to be missed, the formidable Pietro De Maria, previously revealed in two CDs with the VAI and Naxos labels, has just recorded a marvellous version of Chopin’s Etudes for Decca: elegance of phrasing, clarity of intentions, expressive inflections, it’s all there. Waiting for the Sonatas – this is a complete works of Chopin project to be concluded – the Ballades and the Impromptus confirm his magnificent digital skill and mastery of the cantabile together with a consistency of thought which is the hallmark of great interpreters of Chopin.
